How to check if AI knows your business
Ten minutes, no tools, no account required. We're going to ask the AI engines the questions your customers ask and see exactly what comes back.
What you're actually testing
Checking your AI visibility means asking the AI engines the questions your customers ask, then seeing whether you show up and whether what they say is right.
This isn't a technical audit. You don't need to touch your code or sign up for anything. We're just going to play the role of a customer looking for a business like yours and watch what the AI hands back.
There are two things to watch for. First: do you appear at all? Second: if you do appear, is the information accurate? Both matter, and they point to different problems if they're wrong.
The prompts to try
Open ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity, and run these prompts about your business one at a time.
We'll start with the category-and-location prompt because that's the one your actual customers are likely running. Then we move to prompts about your business by name. Run each one in a fresh conversation so previous answers don't bleed into the next result.
Who are the best [your category] in [your city]?
Tell me about [your business name].
What does [your business name] sell and how do I contact them?
Is [your business name] a good choice for [what you do]?
What are people saying about [your business name]?
Copy the results somewhere you can compare them. What each platform says will vary. That variation is useful information too.
How to read what comes back
There are three outcomes: it doesn't mention you, it mentions you but gets it wrong, or it nails it. Each one points to a different fix.
Not mentioned at all. This usually means you're too new, your site is too thin, or AI has no third-party sources to corroborate you. The fix is building up both your on-site content and your presence elsewhere: directories, reviews, press mentions.
Mentioned but wrong. AI found something about you but is pulling from an outdated or inconsistent source. Check whether your name, address, and description match everywhere they appear online. Inconsistency is AI kryptonite.
Sometimes it invents a more successful version of you. Enjoy that for a second, then fix it, because nobody can buy from a hallucination.
Accurate. That's the goal. If you're here, your job is to stay here as AI engines update and as competitors improve. The audit below will tell you whether you're actually stable or just lucky.
Or let me run the full check
The free audit goes deeper than a prompt test. It scores your site against the criteria AI engines actually use and tells you exactly what to fix, not just that something is off.
Free.
With 68% of US Google searches now ending without a click (SparkToro / Similarweb, 2026), the AI answer is increasingly the destination, not a detour to your site. The prompts above take ten minutes and they'll tell you more about your AI visibility than most people ever bother to find out.
